I have Xpel Paint protection film over my lights. The film has no UV protection. Could this be applied to the film?

You can actually expect to do 3 - 4 pairs of lights with this coating.

I have Xpel Paint protection film over my lights. The film has no UV protection. Could this be applied to the film?

We did not develop this to be applied to a vinyl film and have not tested it either so unfortunately we would not be able to recommend this product for that application.

I have to ask, since I've made an appointment for Friday morning to have Xpel film installed on my ST: everything I've read about it says it protects from UV, no?

Xpel film does not have UV protection and most films do not.

My installer explained it to me like this... If the Xpel film had UV protection for the painted surface that was underneath it then the areas covered by Xpel would not fade while other parts of the car without Xpel would fade giving you a weird 2-tone effect.

You can go to http://carprotectionpros.com/products/ Nowhere on their site does it say anything about UV protection.

Also Xpel is not as self healing as they would have you believe. I have some major gouges in mine.

I do not want to discourage you. I spent a fortune having this done and I would definitely do it again. I just want you to have all the facts. GOOD LUCK!

I appreciate the info very much, which is why I asked! I didn't think about the fading aspect. Going back, it looks like I misread what Xpel's website said about UV protection. It was in regards to the film itself, not the protection it does or doesn't provide. Found a FAQ section and it said UV is indeed allowed to pass through the film, however, as long as a coating/wax doesn't have high levels of petroleum distillates in it, it can be applied to the film.

My headlights are $2,000 EACH from Ford, so I've got to do what I can to keep them looking new. I'll still get the film, just have to work on the UV part now.

Can you wetsand & polish the headlights and then apply this? Or does it still require a scuffed surface (3000 grit or so) to adhere to?

Keep Clear Headlight Coating can be applied to a brand new headlight for added protection, it can be applied to a scuffed surface like how it is used in our Perfect Clarity Headlight Restoration Kit, or it can be applied to a restored headlight which has been sanded & polished.

I used the perfect clarity head light kit and really liked the coating it was easy to work with and apply. Do you know the shelf life of the unused portion?
