  • How should I proceed? ('91 Classic Red Miata)

    Hi -

I am the new owner of a 1991 Classic Red Miata. The body is in pretty good shape but the paint is oxidized. I read some posts about revitalizing single stage paint and tried my hand at using #7 to replenish some oils. The car was MUCH improved after a single application. I'm now noticing the swirls marks and other imperfections in the paint that I'd like to take care of. I've had a lot of experience with #105 and #205 with a Flex DA. I was talking to someone about my plans and they mentioned ultimate compound and ultimate polish. I'd like to understand the differences between 105/205 and UC/UP for my application. Can anyone provide any insight into working time, oil content, etc.?

    Hi Scott,

Ultimate Compound & Ultimate Polish are actually both derived from M105 & M205's chemistry, but in general, they provide less cleaning ability. Ultimate Compound is a significant step down in aggressiveness from M105, and most users also find it has a longer working time when used by a Dual Action Polisher. Ultimate Polish also has less cleaning ability.

    Hope this helps

      Welcome to MOL Scott,

Since you're familiar with #105 & #205, and maybe have some on hand, you know the old saying "Least aggressive first". I'm thinking Ultimate Polish and #205 will give similar results. Try the Ultimate Compound and judge for yourself. If it's the original paint there's no need to go overly aggressive if you don't have to. Keep as much paint as possible. Follow up with your #7 as the final touch.
