  • New To Forum and Detailing

    Hello all,
My name is Jonathan Fischer. I am located in southern West Virginia. I recently started my detailing business, Fischer Detailing. I am truly a novice. I have only been working with consumer products that you can buy off the shelf at your local store. I started back in June and so far I have about 20 clients, some come to me every 5 weeks. I haven't ventured into machine polishing and such yet but hope to soon. I have a background collision repair. I am still trying to figure out all of the cost and how much to charge. I don't want to overcharge people but a lot of people look like you commit murder if you charge them 60 dollars for something lol. I did one ladies vehicle and it took 6 hours. I get there and she hands me a check. My mistake for not looking at the check before leaving(tooo trusting) we had discussed the cost to be around 140 for her vehicle..I get home and look at the check and it was 75 bucks. Lesson learned.

Anyway, I will take any advice.

Welcome to MOL! I believe I referred you over here from our Facebook DM's. Welcome! This forum should be a big help! Our Detailing for Dollars Section would be a good place to start a thread if you are looking pricing information.

Re: New To Forum and Detailing

Welcome to the forums Jon. From my experience, whenever one starts a business, the fastest way to grow and gain experience is to be lower than your competitors. Build your reputation and referral base and every year you can increase your prices. Over 25 years ago, my business value was my low price and quality work. Now I'm probably one of the higher priced companies in my field but when I'm referred, the customer most of the time doesn't think twice. Their friend told them how good and fair I was with what I have to offer.

Hope that tid bit helps and good luck with your business.

Shooter, Thanks for the advice. I have done research to find out the average cost around me. Luckily there is no one within 20 miles of me that does Detailing. Now drive an hour and there are several and they charge double for detailing. There is one place that charges $60 for everything but I discourage people from going there. I kid you not. I was at a restaurant beside of the place and one of the guys pulled a car out and it looked ok. Next thing I know he pulls the floor mats out, lays it on top of the car and starts vacuuming. My jaw hit the table lol
