  • Piano black gloss interior trim nightmare

    Hey Everyone
    My name is Oliver.
    Im from Montreal Quebec Canada.
    My first language is french
Im new here and I have question.
    I have a new car.
The shift lever panel is a piano black gloss color/material.
    Its scratches so so easily.
So of course Ive scratched it just running a simple cloth over it.
So I went and bought PlastX and a microfiber.
    Well what can I say
I dont know what I did wrong but it made things even worse
Now the whole panel has scratches all over.
    Its almost ruined.
It did not work at all. It made things a lot worse.

So Yesterday I discovered that the back of my key fob is made of the same piano black gloss color-material. So I try it again. Yeah lol I know. Why didn't I try it at the back of my key in the first place??????!!!!
So I tell myself ok maybe you went a little too hard at it the first time
So I put plastx on the key and start rubbing, this time very very gently
    Nope doesnt work again
Now the back of my key is full of scratches

    Ok screw the key
But besides changing the shift lever panel what can I do to try to fix it?
    Thanks everyone!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

btw i would post a picture to show you guys, if only i can find the way to do it...

Re: Piano black gloss interior trim nightmare

    Welcome to MOL.

To begin those piano plastic pieces are soft and they scratch easily just as you noticed.

Plastx contains abrasives in it. Microfiber is also more aggressive than a foam applicator. That combination with some pressure can leave the those pieces looking worse. Do you have access to a foam applicator and a fine polish like M205 or ultimate polish? These are still abrasive but they are designed to refine a painted surface after an aggressive polish or compound.

You could try using plastx on a foam applicator with less pressure to see if it refines the finish. Try it on the key and use that as your test spot lol.

To post photos, you can host them in your gallery or use something like photobucket to host the photo.

        Would this be ok?
        Would M205 be better?

          Oh and another question...
When youre using UP or M205, do you need to let the product dry before

OMG Im so screwed, the piano black shift lever panel is full of scratches after trying to polish it with PlastX!
            I need your help yall!
I want to try UP as suggested by The Guz (would M205 be better, whats the difference?)
However Meguiars foam applicator pads are very difficult to find where I live
Would this applicator pad be ok to use?? This is the closest thing I could find in stores here...
