Pictures from May 18th, 2017 Thursday Night Open Garage

If you haven't heard, Mike Stoops picked up a new toy, a 1974 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. He was wiping it down in the garage prior to the TNOG starting so I snapped some pictures.

    Originally wheels freshly refurbished

A couple of our company vehicles looking good on a Southern California afternoon.

    MT300's ready to go.

First project was Santiago's buddy with this 2015 I believe Cadillac Escalade ESV. The owner has recently had the two front side panels repainted.

Little bit of an issue going on with the repaint. We were not sure exactly what cause this but when all else buff or sand! We started with M100 Pro Speed Compound via a DMC5 DA Microfiber Cutting Disc but this did not help the defect. We then moved up to Meguiar's 3000 Unigirt Foam Finishing Disc applied with a 3 inch pneumatic DA Sander.

Sanding marks ready to be buffed out.

You could still see the defects after sanding, but we decided to buff the marks out & see if it improved.

Santiago with MT300, DMC5, and M100 Pro Speed Compound to buff out the 3000 grit DA Sanding Marks.

This process proved to help the defects in the clear significantly. They were not perfect but this satisfied our goal to get them much less noticeable so we proceeded to continue on both front side panels.

Next was this 3 series BMW. The hood had been repainted some years ago and has seen better days. The owner was looking to sell the car soon and wanted to learn how to detail it himself.

As usual we first clayed the surface with our Smooth Surface Clay Kit.

Condition on the paint, lots of swirls & random deep scratches.

We tried many different test spots, and all seemed to haze the paint. It happens, sometimes it seems as though any combination will haze. DA Haze is correctable, but if you can find a combination which leaves the least amount or none, clean up of the haze back to a perfectly gloss surface with your next finish polish step is much quicker & easier.

We ended up using M105 Ultra Cut Compound on a DFC5/M205 Ultra Finishing Polish on a DFP5/M21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0 on a DFF5.

The next car in the garage was a 2014 BMW 3 series. This car had recently been in an accident, and many front end panels were re-painted. We ended up not working on the vehicle that night, but wanted to show you guys the condition the owner received the car in back from the body shop. Pathetic!!

Last project for the night was to help out a new regular perfect his DA Polisher Technique.

Thanks to everyone for coming out!
