  • Product selection avice

I have a unique application, I build pool cues. I finish them with Acme FC710 clear coat by Shermin Williams.
After three coats and proper drying I sand the stick form 800 progressively to 1500. Then I am using M105 and M205 to polish put the finish. I find the products easy to use and even though I get a good finish it just does not have the luster that fresh paint does.

What can I do to bring back the original wet look?
    Am I missing a step?
    Should I use different products?

Welcome to Meguiar's Online! It is tough to say what is going to work for this application, but I might suggest trying to use our M07 Show Car Glaze as a final step, after 105/205. #7 Show Car Glaze is a pure polish and just might give you the luster/gloss you are looking for. We here of it being used with success on painted instruments with wood panel substrates which is sort of a similar application.

What is your opinion of the M305 for this application?

Great question, but I would still lean more towards #7 Show Car Glaze. Our M305 Ultra Durable Finishing Glaze will certainly add great gloss, but it mainly focuses on the breathable/silicone free protection for fresh paint aspect. #7 Show Car Glaze is all about gloss, and it has been used in similar situations to yours. I am definitely not promising that #7 is going to perform to your satisfaction for your particular application, but based on what you have tried and out of the products we offer, it would be my next recommendation.

What about Meguiar’s #21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0. How might I benefit from that?

M21 is certainly a good product, but if you're seeking a "wet look" for your cues, you really should try #7 first. The only negative about #7 is its lack of longevity. I'm not a cuemaker, but I care for my cues regularly. After a machine polish with M205, I'll give them a hand polish with M07 Show Car Glaze, then top it with Gold Class Wax for that carnuaba glow. Also, if you're doing a wrapless cue, M07 won't leave the grip area slippery like a wax would.

              eds,

How are you sanding? By hand? With a foam backing pad? By machine?

How are you compounding and polishing? Hand? Machine? Foam? Wool? Cloth? Cotton? Microfiber?
