  • Compound aggressiveness

I am sure this has been covered before, but between the following 3 Mirror Glaze compounds, which would be considered the most aggressive using a PC 7424XP Polisher, Meg foam cutting pad and machine operating speed of 5 to 5 1/2?

    M85
    M101
    M105

    Thanks,

    Re: Compound aggressiveness

M101 and M105 offer the same cut. They are both more aggressive than M85. M101 and M105 use SMAT (non-diminishing) abrasives. I believe M85 uses DAT (diminishing) abrasives which is older technology for Meguiar's compounds.

M101 has a longer working time and less dust than M105. I would look into that or M100 if you are looking for a new compound.

Great! thank you. I am guessing that with the longer work time when using M101, it may seem to be more aggressive.... correct?

I would not necessarily say that. Just allows for a more user friendly experience without the frustration of trying to figure out the learning curve of M105.

            Re: Compound aggressiveness

I my experience, while they all claim a cut of 12, I find they differ.

M101 has the most cut, longer work time, less dusting than M105
M105 has a bit less cut and the above limitations.
M100, to me has a cut of 10 not 12. It's clearly behind the other two in cut. Having said that, it's my go-to compound. I love it. It has minimal dusting, fool-proof easy to use, and is 'wetter' than the other two which is great on dry s/s paints. If a need a bit more cut I step up to M101.
But sometimes, for no apparent reason, M105 works better than M101, but that's very rare.
So I use all three. M100 as my go-to, M101 as backup for more cut, M105 for the odd situation.

            That's my tuppence worth anyway.
