Our last TNOG of 2017 and it turned out to be "Luxury Car Night" with a pair of Lexus SC430 coupes and an S Class Mercedes Benz getting some love.
TNOG regular and all around good guy, Alan (AKA "ajokeman" here on MOL) had the hood and front fender of his SC430 repainted and the body shop was less than careful when masking off the rest of the car, or buffing out the resprayed panels. The overspray was so bad you can see the tape line from the poor masking in the photo below - that's it just above the door shut line directly above Alan's left hand. Yep, that dull space just above the shut line is heavy overspray. Alan used red clay to remove it.
Once the overspray was removed, it was time to attack the other issues in the paint. MT300/M100/DMC5 combo did the trick. Well, with Brad's help, of course.
That's much better!!
Swirls can be tough to capture on silver paint, but we got these! Terry brought in this S Class in need of a little TLC. Again, it was M100 to the rescue!
And tht's what silver should look like up close!
We briefly stepped away from the luxury segment to address a scuff on this Honda Accord. Below is a before and after shot. Yep, M100 again.
How's this for messed up paint? It's the other Lexus SC430 in the garage.
The shots above are all horizontal surfaces, which were heavily oxidized and almost looked like the beginnings of clear coat failure. Below are a couple shots of the side panels of the car.
A little experimentation showed us that we got great correction with D166 Ultra Polishing Wax when used on a DMC5 microfiber cutting disc. We followed that with D166 on a yellow foam polishing disc to remove the slight amount of haze we were getting.
So much better when finished!!!
