  • new member little bit of help please - very faint clear coat scratches

    Hi all,

Was giving my car a quick hose down as I didnt have time to wash it properly after a car club drive which made it fairly dirty. Decided to just hose it down a bit and when I was finished the water puddled on the top of my wing.

I proceeded to move the water off the section with my hand which later proved to be consequential move leaving some very feint marks in the clear coat that can't be seen in the sun but can be seen under light. They aren't deep scratches and I can't catch my fingernail with them either so i'm hoping they are superficial.

I already had some scratchx 2.0 at hand so I washed the car with the two bucket method then dried it and applied some to the section. Admittedly I applied it with too much pressure and ended up with some holograms/cheetah spots/cloudiness so I also applied come liquid caranuba wax. I then incorrectly applied this with a microfibre cloth and one finger in a circular motion. Literally a comedy of bad process.
Anyway, please help! I've read to keep applying the scratchx 2.0 however should I move to Ultimate Compound instead? Seems like when I apply the scratchx it leaves a haze. Car is solid black too, I don't own a DA polisher and would prefer applying anything by hand as i'm not willing to practice using it on my current car.

    Below is a pic:

    Cheers!

Sorry to hear about the scratches. What did you use to apply the Scratch X 2.0? Can you also explain in more detail how you applied the product? Also, another picture of the defect would be good for our reference. Thanks!

Hi Nick, sure I applied the Scratchx 2.0 with the Meguiar's foam applicator pad and then removed the residue with a microfiber towel.

Here is another picture, unfortunately not great quality but it was hard to get the scratches in the light:

Whats my best course of action?
      Cheers
