So I recently got a new car and wanted to take care of it properly, but don't have any experience with waxing and ran into some issues. On Monday I rinsed my car, then washed it with a meguiars car wash product (drawing a blank on the exact one, but I think it was the gold class). I didn't have any issues and the car looked good. I then used meguiars smooth surface clay bar, though I'm new to using clay bars and tried to clean some of the blemishes on my car. Again, no issues.
I then waxed my car using meguiars ultimate liquid wax and ran into some issues. It felt like the applicator was dragging at times, so i applied more and more wax each time. In the end I somehow used half the bottle for my car and after a lot of polishing on the hood, got all the streaks out. The car looked good.
About 4 hours later it rained very hard and the car was great, except for the trunk which had a lot of spring and run off of wax? I used meguiars quik detailer and it looked great again.
Fast forward, thursday morning it looked great. But I had to drive through a bad snow storm and when I arrived, my entire car looked horrible. I've driven other cars in snow and salt and they look a little messy, but never like this. I can't figure out of this is poor waxing, bad wax, or just salt.
I'm very new to detailing and wax and really want some advice on what this is and how to correct it. I'm convinced it's the wax. My other question is, does over washing (during winter) remove the wax quicker? Is it correct to assume the quik detailer is a temporary fix until I wash again?
Any and all help would be appreciated.
