  • Safe to top flagship with pure wax

I've used Flagship on my '16 Fuzion 325 5er on several occasions with good success; however, I have read on other forums debating between to top or not to top a sealant with a traditional wax. The exterior on the rv is good as the unit is somewhat new but I was thinking of topping the Flagship with the Meguiars Pure Wax from their marine catalog and I am hoping someone can advise me doing this will somehow be beneficial. Or should I just top the Flagship with another layer of Flagship? Don't get me wrong, the amount of polishes in the Flagship really bring out the shine but I've read on how the natural waxes bring out the darker colors which my rv has. The Flagship I'm using is not the cleaner wax for clarification. The front cap of the rv uses a clear coat so I use a sealant that is consistent with clear coat paint. Thanks in advance.

    Hi navajochief,

If your goal is to bring out more gloss & depth to your RV, you will notice more benefit by performing a pre-wax cleaner or polish step. I do not think you will notice any difference topping your Flagship Premium Marine Wax coat with a coat of our M56 Marine/RV Pure Wax.

Are you working by hand or machine? If machine what type?

I'm using a Porta Cable D/A. So use pre-wax cleaner prior to sealing with Flagship?
Am I safe to assume the Flagship will give me longer protection than the Pure Wax?

Forgot to ask, what color(s) is your 5th wheel? Also, if there vinyl stripes on the trailer?

Meguiar's Flagship Premium Marine Wax is a full synthetic polymer based protectant. It will provide a significant difference in better durability & longevity.

Regarding what to use prior to applying Flagship Premium Marine Wax, I will wait to hear what color the trailer is.

It's dark. The base coat is light gray but the pin striping/vinyl sticker are dark black/dark blue. Don't think I can cut/paste a pic in this response. If you google 2016 Keystone Fuzion 325, it will give you an idea of what I'm describing. It's close to 39ft so it's a long one.
Thanks for you help by the day.

Re: Safe to top flagship with pure wax

If you are looking for more gloss, I would recommend first:

trying to apply Flagship Premium Marine Wax with one of our Soft Buff DA Foam Polishing Discs (yellow). Typically regular non cleaner waxes like Flagship Premium Marine Wax are applied with our Soft Buff DA Foam Finishing Disc(black), but in your case, and others, fiberglass/gel coat just seems to respond well to polishing pads or even more aggressive pads like a foam cutting pad.

A second option would be to yes like you have said, apply our M50 Marine/RV Cleaner Wax, with a Soft Buff DA Foam Polishing Disc (yellow). The combination of the moderately aggressive pad, combined with the cleaning ability of the M50, should work to noticeable increase the gloss.

You are welcome to follow up with a second coat of Flagship Premium Marine Wax for any of the above options, but I would say most people would not, especially with a 40 ft trailer.

It should be noted we technically do not recommend applying any of our waxes on vinyl stripes. With that said, I have seen where many users still do it, with products like Flagship Premium Marine Wax, with no issue.

            Hope this helps.

So if I go ahead and first use M50 RV Marine cleaner/wax and with this cleaner/wax having carnauba wax in it as an ingredient, won't the carnauba wax prevent the Flagship (sealant) from adhering to the surface of the gelcoat if I decide to give it coat of the Flagship once I'm done removing the M50?

Absolutely not, this is a perfectly OK process to complete. I really think either combination will provide what you are looking for.
