Re: Hello from the UK
So after a few months since your post Nick, I finally had a chance to use my DAS6. I was reading some of you other replies in other threads, and took some advice you had given to someone else. Seeing as I had just bought a dual action, I bought some Meguiars pads. I opted for the MF Cutting discs (5"), Maroon 5" foam cutting pad, and Yellow 5" foam polishing pad (along with the Meguiars 5" backing plate).
My cousin had invited me to his over the weekend. We had a plan to correct his black paint (Seat Leon Cupra R - basically a mk4 golf platform for those who don't know). He had told me since modifying it he was constantly chasing mechanical issues, and ended up neglecting the paint work over the 4-5 years. The car hadn't really had a layer of wax in that time. So as you can imagine, the paint was horrid. The bonnet (hood) looked like the lacquer had failed over 80% of the hood. The water spots looked etched on the paint.
We foamed the car, then used Meguiars wash plus. We clayed the vehicle, and removed tar spots. It was my cousins first time claying a car, and was shocked at how dirty the car really was, proof being in what was removed with the clay.
We washed the car again, and dried it all off.
Being my first time using the DA, I was quite nervous and used retail Ultimate compound with the maroon foam pad. With a few passes the paint looked better, but wasn't really making much of an impact on the harder german paint. I took an educated guess and used UC on the microfiber cutting pad. I was AMAZED at how quickly these things cut, and left the surface finish looking great. We did the whole car. Then used Ultimate polish on a yellow pad. The difference of UP vs no UP was AMAZING.
I couldn't believe how straight forward the job was. The whole system of having select types of pads, and using the consumer compound and polish was super easy for a novice such as myself. I kept the Mf pad as fresh as I could by brushing between passes.
We covered the car in Ultimate Paste wax and admired the results. The hood which seemed 80% dead, was recovered, and I got most of hood looking glossy black. Unfortunately, the swirls were incredibly deep and closely grouped. Almost as if when he took the car for a
