Pictures from Meguiar's May 3rd, 2018 Thursday Night Open Garage

We had a smaller group at this past Thursday Night Open Garage but that certainly did not mean we did not have some awesome projects!

First up was this nicely done Chevrolet Corvair. The owner had attended one of our Saturday classes a while back, and had been trying to find the time to bring his car to a TNOG. It has been cared for well, but there had only been minor attempts at defect removal, and it had lots of swirls, scratches, & sanding marks which we wanted to address.

We started with Ultimate Compound on our MT300 with a DFC5 Soft Buff DA Foam Cutting Disc. While this combination made a big improvement, it did not remove some of the deeper defects, which really was to be expected, but you have to start somewhere. We moved up to M100 Pro Speed Compound with our DMC5 DA Microfiber Cutting Disc and BOOM, we had some serious defect removal, and just an awesome finish that was left behind, especially for a compound!

The owner had never used a Dual Action Polisher, only a rotary machine. We talked through some differences in technique, and we literally did not have to provide much of any more instruction, he was off & running, getting results.

The owners son even jumped in on some of the fun! We used M205 Ultra Finishing Polish on our DFP5 Soft Buff Foam Polishing Disc, and this combination very quickly and very easily refined the finish to a super high gloss. We then followed with a coat of Ultimate Paste Wax for protection.

Next we worked on this Lexus SC430 which has seen better days.

And BOOM! D166 Ultra Polishing Wax via MT300 Dual Action Polisher, DMC5 DA Microfiber Cutting Disc.

The owner proceed to complete the trunk lid.

More M100 Pro Speed Compound via DMC5 DA Microfiber Cutting Disc.

    Before.

After compound step only, no polish.

It wouldn't be a Thursday Night Open Garage without some Headlight Restoration!

1000 grit foam finishing disc, followed by 3000 grit foam finishing disc, applied with a pneumatic DA Sander, then with no buffing we sprayed our Keep Clear Headlight Coating directly over the sanding marks, which turns the lights clear & lasts for around one year.

Thanks to everyone for coming out!

This was a nice TNOG night.

I don't see many of the Corvairs any more. This white one was an interesting RestoMod. The 10 year old paint had been done right and with quality paint and clear. It buffed up nice.

Mike Stoops demonstrated the extra patience (and section passes) needed to let 166 remove the water marks, swirls and oxidation on the black Lexus. That patience and his working with the owner will make a big difference in the ability of the owner to continue to get good results as he completes the tasks. I look forward to seeing it when the owner finishes this paint correction.

That is one healthy soundin' Corvair!

Sounds like Van Nuys Blvd from loooong ago.
