M105 and 20 year old Porsche Glasurit paint correction

Hello,

I have an original paint 20 year old 911 that I am restomodding. The finish is two stage German Glasurit paint. I am in the process of doing a paint correction as there are swirls, scratches, and other imperfections.

I am using a PC7424XP and started with #2 Fine Cut Cleaner and orange pads. The #2 removed the swirls, but not the scratches so I moved on to M105.

The M105 was able to get the fine scratches out, but the surface is still not perfect like glass as I can see tiny pin size holes in the clear when I shine a bright light and angle it on the surface. I don't think the holes are from road rash, as there are too many of these imperfections and it is generally uniform across the surface. The hood as the most imperfections, and the roof as some but not the same extent.

Is this something that can be corrected with M105 or should I call it a day and finish it with M205 and #26.

Couldn't really get a good one of the surface imperfections, but you can barely see them near the LED light bar on the top of this...

Sorry no one has chimed in for a while. Can you clarify these tiny pinholes in the clear are only in isolated areas? If they are, where are they located? They likely cannot be correct with M105 & may require a bit of sanding.

Thanks for getting back to me. I ended up leaving the pin holes as my goal is to preserve the paint. I finished it with M205 and topped it with two coats of M21. Paint looks great!

On a separate question, I am using Chemical Brothers citrus pad cleaner which works fine to clean the M205/M105. I noticed the M21 stays in my pads. What do I use to clean pads when M21 is used?

I agree with your decision to leave well enough alone samuraik, a factory paint at that age is worth keeping in tact as long as possible. Going after age defects like your pin dot size marks would only result in thinning the clear coat of paint, probably shortening it's life span significantly. I've seen similar damage on many cars, even one of my own, and an aggressive run with #105 only lessened them by 50%, or less. Unless it's going to be a show car, and you have the back-up plan of being able to spend a large sum on a new paint job when you accidently burn through the clear trying to remove a defect, I would call it part of the cars originality and character.

Additionally, M21 requires several soaking and cleaning attempts to remove from your pads. That's a good thing I suppose. If it cleared away from your pad too easily imagine how quickly it would wear away from your paint surface.
