wax, sealer, or ?

In June of 2009 I bought a brand new Silverado in Black Granite Metallic. Paint is in excellent shape. I used to wax it twice a year, not let anyone touch the paint, and wash it regularly (3 bucket method). Kind of been slacking the last couple of years and had it detailed at a local shop.

Well, last spring I moved to Phoenix AZ. I got Valley Fever right after moving here and haven't been able to care for my baby as well as she deserves. Slowly recovering, but now I have an issue with my elbow. I can make it through a wash, but that's about it. Been a rough year for me and my truck!

I use Ultimate Wash and Wax when I wash every other weekend. Between the washes I use a waterless wash. I try to use Express Spray Wax when things are working right (elbow and energy level).

I know she needs a good wax and probably a polish. It's not in the budget for me to go to a detailer. So, I got a bottle of a 10 minute sealer (made by the other guys) in hopes of some protection until I can figure something else out.

Should I continue on with what I've been doing, and add the sealer, or should I try something else?

My opinion only here veedub, "10 minute" anything will last just a bit longer than, well, 10 minutes. Quick waxes, spray waxes, wash & waxes, all fall into the same category for me. If you're constantly washing and touching up your truck, these added "protectants" will of course add something. But to rely on them for your sole deterrent against nature, it's not gonna work. That being said, something is better than nothing (as the old saying goes).

How's the budget for allowing a orbital polisher? It would sure help ease the pain on that elbow. With that in mind, Meguiar's D166 cleaner wax would hit a home run for you.

You might consider checking out Meguiar's Ultimate Fast Finish. Simply put, it is straight synthetic polymers in an aerosol can. Great protection, durability & longevity. It provides great gloss, not necessarily the gloss from a wax like Ultimate Wax or Gold Class Carnauba, but it might just be perfect to get you some great protection.

I have thought about an orbital, but I'm afraid that I'll add some swirls or worse! I've always worked by hand, but ve never been as old as I am now! Haha
I will look into the Fast Finish. It may help me out for the time being.

Polishing with a dual action polisher is not as hard as one thinks.

If you are not looking for paint correction, a cheap random orbital polisher might help you a lot. You can get a 6 or 8 inch Black and Decker or Simonize at Walmart for less than $40.00. I tell you, mine saves my elbows for applying wax, and while I remove by hand, you can use it to remove wax also.

62veedub, I sympathize with the elbow issues and the fact that you were afraid of causing swirls or worse. Been there brother but ask questions, watch videos and listen to the guys on here and you will gain the confidence to perform the task. If possible, invest in a polisher of some sort to help with the process. I'm 68 and never thought I could tackle a major detail but after I did, I am very pleased with the outcome. Even the standard Cleaner Wax in the maroon bottle applied with one of those inexpensive 6" Orbital buffers and microfiber bonnets will help you keep that thing looking great.

And as mentioned, Ultimate Fast finish could take the place of the 10 minute product.

personally id just get into glazes, they are your friend for the tired or thosw with big cars

Ultimate polish is both a light polish and glaze, just wiping it on a scratched area makes a difference, then top with a decent sealant.. then every wash spray dow with some quick wax and this can go on for months, wash and srpay wax.
