Buffing Wet sanded panel....

Hi,

Im curently wet sanding my Nissan Pulsar GTi-R due to a really poor respray thats drove me crazy for years... Anyway im using 1500 grit on the really bad areas to level it out, which has gone very well, then refining with 2000 and maybe 3000 as I have it in my garage, rest of car will be 2000 grit hopefully. I normally use M105 with a Chemical Guys Orange Hex Logic pad to buff the sanding marlks out then M205 with a CG White Hex Pad, but im intrigued to use a Meguires Micro Fibre cutting pad to buff out the sanding marks with M105, would this be too aggressive on sanded clear coat?

I can't speak from actual experience, as I've never used M105, but M101, which has a similar aggressiveness level, paired with a MF cutting pad is my go-to for removing serious scratches or color sanding scratches. Most resprays are not nearly as hard as factory paints, even when baked, so you may want to try a test spot with your orange pad first before the MF pad.

Thanks for the reply Bill, I tried the orange pad previously on it, removing sanding marks from the painter, and machine polished the whole car without issue. I did try it before on a test patch of the door thats had P1500, 2000 and 3000 and came up fine with very little time needed, also another test patch by hand:





Left is the DA and right by hand.

It was a very quick attempt and up close with bright LED light, a few 1500 grit scratches can still be seen, so need to refine more with 2000 grit.

I'll probably order the MF pads and the M101 and give it a go.

Its good to know that very little effort is needed by hand to get the gloss back, awkward places a machine could never reach can be done to a good standard by hand. The one I did by had was literally about 40 seconds, edges still need attention but as I said was only a test.

Went one step further today, used 3M's Trizact system! Ive got a Mirka 650CV DA, so decided to give it ago.



Unbelievable product, made it so much easier and a lot lot less messy than wet & dry block sanding.





Just waiting for Meguiars 101, foam cutting pad and Micro Fibre pads to arrive then onto buffing it out.

Hi Nick, the DA I have is from Clas Ohlson - [SIZE=2][FONT=arial]Cocraft HPV 720 21mm throw, had it a few years now. DetailingWorld.co.uk reccommended it for the price at the time and build quality. My old 8mm throw machine was getting tired so decided to try it out. At the time when I bought mine I think it was

Got round to trying out the microfibre pad today with the 101, ok it was dusty as not using D300 but certainly got the job done effortlessly





Really happy with the results, just need to do the rest of the car now!!
