Pictures from Meguiar's 8/9 Thursday Night Open Garage
Another awesome TNOG. We started with this super cool Alfa Romeo. The owner had applied some touch up paint to a rock chip, then wet sanded with 2000 grit, and then polished, but was not able to fully remove the sanding marks with the product/process he had, and was also a bit concerned with using the right approach.
We used a MT300/DBP3/DMC3/M100 Pro Speed Compound (one of my favorite spot repair combos) to attempt in removing the remainder of the sanding marks/scratches.
VOILA! We spent about 30 seconds applying a few overlapping passes, and the sanding marks were gone & very little haze left behind from compound step. That will clean up easily with a finishing polish step.
MT300/DBP3>G3508>M205 Ultra Finishing Polish, another 30 seconds or so, a few overlapping passes or so, at around 3800 - 4000 opms, and the little haze was gone, and we were done! We did not apply wax to allow the touch up paint to fully cure. We advised the owner to contact the touch up paint manufacturer for their proper care recommendations after application, and to ask them how long it takes for their touch up paint product to cure.
It wouldn't be a TNOG with out some headlight restoration. This early 2000's Lexus SC430 lights were not all that bad, but the owner wanted to see if he could get them looking better.
3000 Grit Foam Finishing Disc via Festool LEX 3 77 2.5" Compressed Air eccentric sander. We managed to forget to snap an after picture, but they turned out great after 3000 Grit Foam Finishing Disc>M105 Ultra Cut Compound>Keep Clear Headlight Coating.
Yikes, we couldn't let the car leave the garage with the hood looking like this. The owner said, "Go for it."

Derek Bemiss of Detail Werks stopped by and helped a few guys with D/A Technique. Derek is the guy who cut & buffed Chip Foose's Ridler Winning Imposter. Not a bad guy to have around for some advice!
The guys were using D302 DA Microfiber Polish on a DMF5 via MT300. This was their result. Decent amount of haze. We went from the below:
To this, using the same exact set up. How? Completely blew the primed pad out with compressed air. Did not add any more product, applied a couple quick passes, and boom, haze free & super glossy. Lesson Learned: Anytime you are having trouble finishing out haze sensitive paint, there may be too much product in the pad or you may be working the product in for too long.
Stoops got a new VW Daily & pulled it in to wipe it down with G3626 Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax. (the other pc pictured)
