  • 2000 or 3000 grit wet sanding,m?

Here I go again I guess no one wants to answer my other 2 questions, so this question is, on factory paint on a new toyota, would like 1500 or 2000 grit be to abrasive to start with, I want to wet sand a repaired scratch and then wet sand around the repair , so there's going to be some factory paint that I will be wet sanding also.

    Hi Indiglofish61,

I know you have probably heard the phrase before, but especially when it comes to factory paint, and especially when sanding, we recommend using " the least aggressive method" needed. In general, yes, 1500 or 2000 hand sanding is a bit aggressive. We would recommend starting with a quality 3000 grit foam finishing paper or disc.

Can you further explain the above statement so we can fully understand your situation?

    Thanks and hope this helps.

After the coats of clear , I need to know also how long until I can wet sand the clear coat, unless there is a reason not to wet sand the clear coat, since I'm new at this what would be the reason to wet sand and not to wet sand?

Wet sanding helps remove paint residue product from the sandpaper's grit. This helps the paper function with more consistency.
