  • Quick Polish - an experiment

My buddy brought his 2011 Kia Koupe over for polish and detailing.
The car was a mess....hadn't been cleaned in over 4 years. It had severe scratches as well as small dents that required paintless dent removal.

Original plan was to hit the paint with M105, M205, and finally M305 via Torqx polisher.
However, I ran out of time due to all of the interior cleaning that was required....super mess...gum, soft drink spills, etc. OMIGOSH ..the car was trashed inside !!!

    So here's what I did:
    1) Applied 3M Super Duty compound by hand to remove the bad scratches.
(It's really rough stuff and I don't know of an equivalent Maguiar's product)
    2) Applied ScratchX 2.0 via Torqx - orange pad.
    3) Applied M305 glaze via Torqx - black pad.

For a black finish, this turned-out pretty well.....and took less than 6 hours to complete.
Any and all comments appreciated. I know, I know....ScratchX is supposedly a hand-application product.
However, it appears to work well with the Torqx for scratch remediation.

    Hey syswizard,

Sounds like a good time. You do know that M305 is for fresh paint correct?

Nick - you mean M305 won't work on older paint ?
If not, what is recommended then for older paint ?

Are we referring to the same product? M305 Ultra Durable Finishing Glaze, is a breathable, silicone free protectant for fresh paint, like out of a paint shop or body shop.

Yes Nick, that's the product. It won't work on older finishes ?
If not, what comparable glaze is recommended ?

Just to further clarify we are on the same page, M305 Ultra Finishing Durable Glaze was designed for use on fresh paint; to provide protection during the curing process, when wax/sealants cannot be applied.

If you are working with paint that is cured, a wax/sealant would be recommended for protection. Meguiar's Ultimate Wax is a good example, M21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0 is another example. M205 Ultra Finishing Polish is currently our most premium finishing polish we offer.

                Nick -
thanks for that...I'm a huge fan of M205....remarkable product...as well as ScratchX 2.0.

M21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0 ....but not available at Pepboys, Advance Auto, nor AutoZone.
Appears to be avail online only....FYI.
I searched all 3 websites....and that product is nowhere to be found.
Please contact your sales team on this....this product has not reached the retail market....yet.

M21 is available through most online retailers. If you want something similar to it then NXT 2.0 would be what is available locally.

Thanks for that Guz, but I don't see NXT in those stores either.
As far as UV protection, which would last longer....M21 or NXT 2.0 ?

As I mentioned NXT can be found at most local stores. You may have to actually take a drive and look on the shelf. You can always purchase most Meguiar's products through online retailers (Autogeek, Detailed Image, Autopia, Amazon, Meguiar's Direct, etc...).

Ultimate Wax is also available at most local auto parts stores as well.
