  • Confused over backer plate and pad choice

I just got a PC7424XP DA and I am confused over the backer plate and pads...
What size backer plate should I get? What size pads? It seems there are 3", 4", 5", 5.5", 6", 6.5"...I don't get which is best or what to go with.

My ultimate goal is to do some light paint swirl removal, followed up by polishing, then waxing with Ultimate Wax (PS: does UW expire? Its been in the garage for a few years now)

    Thanks

Get yourself a 5" backing plate to use 5" pads. Meguiar's has their 5" foam pads that work well with the PC7424XP.

3" pads require the 3" backing plate. These are used to get to the areas a 5" pad can not get into.

For a Porter Cable, we would recommend using a 5 inch pad for best performance. Our DBP5 Soft Buff D/A Backing Plate, combined with our 5" Soft Buff D/A Foam Discs, would be our recommendation.

Thanks - I am going to go that route, meg 5" backer and the 5" pads.

Frustrating though that on amazon the 5" pads have the 6" product number and 6" title, so I have no idea if I'll actually receive the 5" pads or not...

I tried to replicate what you are referring to so we could document your experience but could not. Can you possibly send me an e-mail with screen shots of what you are referring to?
