    Meg's Fast Finish immediate failure - what went wrong?

    Ok, a little background here. I picked up a new 2018 Subaru Outback in crystal white pearl recently. I also found Meg's fast Finish 5.00 per box at my local Walmart, picked up 5 boxes. Since I've heard really good things about it and also seen a few vids on Youtube If felt like I had hit the motherlode.

    So, I used an iron/fallout remover, Meg's white clay and a detailer for lube, then a paint cleaner wipedown (a blue spray liquid from another company). Followed the directions exactly, watching and being careful how much to use on the cloth and then wiping down. I did two coats, then I left it sit in the garage for about 24 hours after that.

    Fast forward to about 2 weeks later and the first wash. I foamed it with hyperwash (2oz in 20oz of warm water), then 1 oz in 5 gal of water (2bm). Began washing while the foam was still on for extra lube.

    Then powerwashed the vehicle and to my surprise there was no beading hardly at all - the surface had a lot of standing sheeted water, the sides of course did not have this.

    I ego blower'd it and toweled off the remainder then went sit in the porch swing and ponder what happened to my two coats of FF.


    Anyone have thoughts based on the above?

    I've kind of felt the same way... maybe not that bad... but I usually use the Fast Finish for my base coat now, then Ult. Wax on top.

    Was there any wax or sealant on the paint applied by the dealer? You may want to try polishing an area and then reapplying to see if that gives you a better bond.

    No there was not; in fact I forgot to mention I also used purple power vehicle and boat wash as a stripper.

    I am not sure how well that works to strip anything off the surface. So I cannot comment on that.

    It may be worthwhile to try and polish one section and then do the same process on the next panel next to it to see if you get similar results. Just a thought.

    I also apply fast finish with a microfiber applicator instead of the towel. Provides better coverage in my experience.

    Sorry to hear about the trouble. The only variable I can imagine is that some sort of residue from all the chemicals you used to prepare the paint, was still left behind on the paint when the UFF was applied, and that residue prevented the UFF from bonding properly. Again to reiterate, this is my guess. I understand some of products used are strong chemicals that would typically strip a protectant, but that does not mean that those chemicals themselves will leave behind a perfectly neutral paint surface. You could have all sorts of stuff left behind, depending on the makeup of the products & the order they were used in.

    I would suggest performing a normal 2 bucket wash with a properly diluted car wash solution, and then try re-applying.

    Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I thought I was giving it the best cleanest surface possible to work on - hoping it wasn't that work.Hyperwash 1oz/5gal ok?

    Sure thing and please keep up updated. Yes, the normal dilution of Hyper Wash would be perfectly adequate to provide a normal two bucket wash method. I really think this make work for you, especially when you are following all of the directions & allowing the product to cure properly, before exposure to water/rain.
