  • Ultimate Compound clear coat scratches

I have a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 that I purchased slightly used a couple months ago. I recently had new tires put on as the OEMs were horrible in the snow. The day after I get home from tire install, I notice a dirt/mud spot on my upper box side. I assume one of the used tires contacted it when they loaded them in my truck bed. I carefully clean it off and sure enough there is some minor scratches in the clear coat. I could not feel them with my fingernail but the truck color is a dark slate metallic. Scratches were only visible in bright light at certain angles. I polished them with the Meguiars drill DA with red foam pad and UC. I

Loomis, Welcome to Meguiar's Online Forums.
It seems like your device (cell phone) is sending an end of message character when you type the apostrophe. Try using "I am" or "I have". This is a common problem for some phones.

Thanks, didn’t realize it did. It should have continued to say that I assume either the clear coat is much harder on the 2018 or maybe it isn’t working as well because of cold temps. It’s 30-35 here in Michigan. Anyway, I did see change but that was after 3 applications.

Regarding clear coat hardness, yes, it's a possibility, GM paint does tend to be on the resilient side. Meguiar's D/A Power System is a great tool and makes defect removal far easier than by hand, but it also does have it's limitations, especially depending on the severity of the scratches. Even a regular D/A Polisher like our MT300 has limitation before wet sanding needs to be completed.

It's sounds like you may have met your expectations for now. Congrats on the new truck.
