  • Foam cutting or polishing pad with DA

I've been using the yellow 6" polishing pads with a DA for a few years now but wonder if the red cutting pad wouldn't be better in some situations. Right now I'm working on a black '08 Buick that hasn't been washed let alone detailed in 5 years. It has original paint in good condition but obviously neglected. Got the roof looking great but it took two passes with 105 plus a third with 83 for good measure. Maybe because the pads are old, I apply too much compound at one time, or it's cold, 40F, but the pad loads up pretty fast and I had to slap on a fresh one before finishing the top. Even spinning the pad in a towel didn't clear it too much. Took an hour and half just for the roof. What am I doing wrong? Any benefits using a red cutting pad in this case? On the sides of most cars I can do one pass with 105 and be done with it.
