  • What to do next.

I am building a CJ-2A Willys Jeep. Its my only project its my only paint job its my only concern.

    The details.

5 coats of Kirker Pacific Blue ULTRA-GLO single-stage urethane

Wet sanded with 1500 grit until perfectly smooth

Buffed with a Orange Harbor Freight foam pad on a 800 rpm Makita 9.6V angle drill using Meguiar's 105
    next step
Buffed with Blue Harbor Freight foam pad same angle drill with Meguiar's 205 compound.

The results look pretty good to me

Its not perfect but for my first paint job since I painted my 67 Chevelle with 12 cans of Krylon Hot Rod Black Primer in 1979 I'm very happy with it.

What I would like to know now is what should I use as a Sealer/Wax/next step etc. ?

This is not a show car its a Willys Jeep it will go to some local car shows but then it will also go out to play in the woods and Desert. I have no illusions the paint will look so pretty once it gets there.

If you would like to see the rest of the project here are a few snaps

Hoping to have it on the road by this late fall when I will have time to build the Aluminum Hard top for it.

    Re: What to do next.

Cool project. It's typically recommended to wait at least 30, 60, or even 90 days, prior to applying a wax/sealant to fresh paint. Once you although the paint to cure, our Ultimate Wax, either paste or liquid, is our most premium traditional wax at this time. As you wipe the vehicle down for shows, take it off-roading, use it, etc. you will likely end up with fine swirls/scratches. Very normal for a vehicle which is not a show car. If you want to address the swirls/scratches, there is really two ways you can do this, go back to using M205 Ultra Finishing Polish, and then follow with a coat of wax. Another way would be to use a cleaner wax, like our new 3 in 1, which provides cleaning (defect removal), polish, and protection in one step. With either choice, you may also look at our new Hybrid Ceramic Wax as a final top coat.

    Hope this helps.
