  • Polishing in direct sunlight?

    Hello I

    Re: Polishing in direct sunlight?

Hello I’m new to detailing and I wanted to get some haziness from my hood off ASAP for a car meet.I started by washing my car and going to work with meguiars ultimate compound with a microfiber hand pad.It was about 90 degrees out and sunny and the hood was hot to the touch.I don’t have a garage for a shade so I really didn’t have a choice.Anyways would this cause any problems to my paint? Clear coat?? After i was done polishing I noticed some streaks were left that i had to remove vigorously using a soft terry towel.
(SORRY I KEEP GETTING CUT OFF FOR SOME REASON)

Welcome & to get right to it, applying in the sun & to a hot surface can cause the product to flash dry on the paint, making it difficult to get off. I would recommend re-applying in the shade, and also with a soft foam applicator pad, it will be less aggressive than a microfiber applicator pad.

That will get you going since you are in a rush & we can go from there on your goals/expectations for the car. Speaking of what are you working on?

Would it cause scratches hand polishing with a microfiber pad on a hot hood? Or could it damage the clear coat? I think I might have cause damage now as the hood is pretty scratched up.I will take it to a professional.

Going over it again with a foam applicator should clear things up.

Make sure your surface is clean before polishing.
Make sure the polishing pads stay clean.
As DrumDan says try a foam applicator to see if it clears up any light marring left by the MF pad.

Do you have a 10 f.t pop up that you can use for shade?

I agree with above 2 comments. Repeat application with a soft foam wax applicator pad.
