Honda Fit with DA still getting small swirls after M205 VERY SOFT PAINT

Hey peeps

Just got the following products and decided to have a go at a very neglected paint.

I started with just M105 but noticed it wasnt doing much work. So I did the following process wet stand 2000, M105 on agressive red pad (
moderate pressure)> M205 on very soft black pad (VERY light pressure to no pressure). All applied via DA. What I noticed was that when I would clean everything off with IPA I would still see some swirls. Only thing that seemed to have removed swirls is going over it with Meguairs Carnauba liquid wax (forget exactly which one). I read that these Honda paints are VERY SOFT so thats why i tried to use as least of pressure as i could with soft pad and M205 but still couldnt get it looking completely perfect short of using a wax (i guess it fills in those swirls). I heard of people using M66 after M205 but I guess that essentially does the same thing (fills them in).


I am wondering what can I try here as a FINAL step after M205 so when I strip all waxes off with IPA i get the glass look I get now after using carnauba wax!

Welcome to Meguiar's Online. It's hard to tell from your pictures, but I am assuming you are referring to D/A Haze by your description of "small swirls left behind". There are two approaches here. You can likely get our M205 Ultra Finishing Polish to finish out haze free on a soft paint like you are working with, we did it for years, it just takes some special techniques. Here are a couple approaches to try:

Try your same approach just using a very small amount of product.

Another approach, is to ensure you pad has a good amount of product in it, and is fully primed & worked in, even run it on a panel for a pass, and then blow your pad out with compressed air, essentially backing out majority of the product in the pad, do not add any more product after blowing out, spray a very light mist of water on the section you are working on, and perform a very small pass. - I have done this many time to get soft black paint to finish out perfectly haze free.

You might also experiment with a polishing pad like our Soft Buff D/A Foam Polishing Pad.

Another approach is just to buy our new M210 Ultra Pro Finishing Polish! It's that simple, the product was designed for this situations, and makes "finish polishing" d/a haze sensitive paint easy.

Thanks Nick, I already used very little compound but I will definetely try the water mist trick!
