Wrong compound used, not sure what step to do next.... Clear coat looks burned.

So I used the wrong compound to remove some scuffs... Left me with some faded marks. Looks somewhat scratched and not shiny. What would be the next step, several detail shops have told me they can get it out. Id like to know if its something I can do on my own by hand.

This has happened many times in the past. Depending on how severe scratches are, most of the time one can have success with our G17216 Ultimate Compound. If working by hand, we would suggest applying with a soft foam applicator pad, like our W0004, or a microfiber applicator pad, like our X3080. Work in small 1 square foot or so sections at a time, keeping your hand flat, and work the product in circular motions with moderate pressure for about a minute or so. Wipe off. You can repeat this as many as 4 or 5 times in any given area, but beyond that, if the scratches remain, it will take a machine, like a dual action polisher.

I imagine I should probably pick up a polisher as I get into this as a hobby. I’m just a little nervous to make it worse using one. Do you have shortcuts to a link on using polishers and two stage detailing. It would help if you do as I am away from a laptop. (Phone screen is small on this site)

I imagine I should probably pick up a polisher as I get into this as a hobby. I’m just a little nervous to make it worse using one. Do you have shortcuts to a link on using polishers and two stage detailing. It would help if you do as I am away from a laptop. (Phone screen is small on this site)

Polishing is not that hard to learn. It takes a little proactive but again it is not hard to learn and do it on your own. You have to start somewhere if you want results.

These are both great. Thank you! After looking at my photos what pad and what material would you use? My goal is to remove the swirls and scratches without destroying the clear. The car is a 2018 and the owner before me loved car washes so there is lots of swirls. I want to remove swirls and containment’s, polish to enhance the shine and wax to protect it.
