  • Beware 3 inch Meguires professional backing plate extremely poor constructed

I am a big fan of Meguires have lots of there products and buckets grit guards etc , but have been seriously let down by there professional 3 inch da backing plate
I originally purchased a G220v2 to compound and polish the acrylic panel on my touring caravan this took 3 hours mostly with a 3 inch backing plate and pads , did an excellent job made it like new ,
So last month I used it to take out 2 light scratches on my wife

I don't know that the 3" microfiber pads were meant to be used on the wife.
They primarily were meant for painted surfaces.
But now, we want to know you were using a polish with fillers to hide minor defects.

Actually, you probably tried to type a message where you wanted to add an apostrophe after wife.
Some of the phone devices are causing message truncation when using some fonts.
Instead of an apostrophe, they are sending a character string for end of message.

Try typing again and avoid the apostrophe and single quote.

i have had a metal fabrication buisness for 35 years and use many angle grinder etc never have I seen such weakness on a fast designed machine ,

Sorry to hear about the trouble Clasman. I am familiar with the backing plate you are referring to, our S3BP. We do now have a new backing plate, our DBP3 Soft Buff D/A Backing Plate, which like the 5" you mentioned, has more durable rivet construction.

I would recommend getting in touch with our UK office if you are seeking further assistance on this matter. Their contact info is below:

Nick thank you for the response and the information on the new 3 inch backing plate sounds like Maguires have modified to a stronger construction , I wonder how many others have experienced issues sadly the damage with an exposed Male stud is not open to any smart repair to keep car value up so looks like front panel re paint , but can’t exspect any recourse as machine sat so long unused , big thanks for your time
