  • Meguiar's #7 Discontinued??

Hi there, was trying to source some Meguiar's #7 for my 1965 MGB, and its sold out in Australia. I contacted Meguiar's and they said it is being discontinued because there's not the market for it with today's paint technologies. They recommended Ultimate Polish or #205 as replacements.

This is a surprising call given Meguiar's traditional support for hot rods and classic cars, most of which have single stage paint that needs to be nourished rather than attacked with abrasive polishes. As far as I'm aware, #7 is unique in the detailing world, being as it is a pure polish that contains no abrasives, and has oils which nourish single stage paint.

I've tried using Ultimate Polish in a similar manner leaving it to soak, but if it's left on for more than an hour it dries white and rock hard. Its not something you'd leave on for 24hrs to let the oils nourish the paint. Also while to does seem to contain some oil, it also contain abrasives, which isn't great if the goal is preservation of the existing paint.

My question is, are there other alternatives for #7? For example does Mother's Pure Polish have the same nourishing oils? How about Auto Glym's Super Resin?

Would Meguiar's consider doing smaller runs of #7 for those with classic cars that still need it? For example, Castrol still make smaller runs of their old oils with their "Classic Oils" series which includes oil, brake fluid and valvemaster compatible with classic cars. I guess it's great for them from a marketing perspective to be seen supporting vintage/classic car owners.

Would appreciate any recommendations for a replacement for this classic and much needed product (it's not Ultimate Polish).

Man that is a real shame if #7 is going away.

Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze is not discontinued. It sounds as though the Meguiar's partner in your area has chosen not to carry it. The only similar product would be our A2116 Deep Crystal Polish.

Thanks Nick. It is all sold out across Australia, and Meguiar's Australia said: " the product is no longer avaliable in Australia due to being discontinued in the USA." and: "It is a great product, but sadly the market calls less and less for that type of product due to new paint technologies."

Will follow up again with them, and thank you for the recommendation for Crystal Polish.

It is not as popular as it used to be, but it is still produced & offered.
