  • Buying my first DA polisher and polishing first time.

I have been thinking about polishing my car for the first time now. I really cant spend 300euros to buy Meguiars DA, so thought about buying cheaper DA. There are 3 polishers in my price range - Which one to choose? Maybe you can help.
    https://m.motonet.fi/fi/tuote/700052...lotuskone-900W Cruise control?,should be 6" or 150mm backing plate Speed: 2000-6400 p/min

    Seems like DAS6-V2? 650W, 5" or 125mm backing plate, Speed 2000-6400 p/min

    https://m.motonet.fi/fi/tuote/700052...otuskone-950-W - 950W , base speed? regulation, 6" or 150mm backing plate. Speed: 2000-4200 p/min

I also thought about buying Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, 2 medium Meguiars pad (5"or 6"?), 1 finsihing pad - is that enought to do the whole car?

Welcome to Meguiar's Online. They all look like decent tools. Can you possibly tell us the "eccentric movement or tool obrit size/throw" for each tool? I notice one of them is a 9mm, but cannot find information on the others.

Thanks for answering. They all should be between 8-9mm. The cheapest 650w one should be rebranded Das-6 V2 machine which has got some kinda good reviews. How much and what pads should I buy? Car that I will polish is Jaguar XF - dont know if ot has soft/hard paint?

With that size orbit, I would go with the tool which has the most torque & which also can run a 5" backing plate & pad. Have you seen this article yet? Should give you some information you can reference especially for our Soft Buff D/A Foam Discs.

          Thanks! Really helpful thread.
Also 1 option would be polisher with 21mm orbit: https://www.motonet.fi/fi/tuote/7002...otuskone-810-W Would that be better than others? Why choose 5" backing plate instead 6". Sorry for probably stupid questions.

I personally would not recommend a 21mm orbit machine if you are just getting into the use of a D/A machine. In my opinion it is easier for a user to get familiar with a more standard throw machine, like a 8 - 12 mm. The smaller the pad on a random orbital dual action polisher, the more aggressive the machine can be or in other words the more capable the machine can be to removal more severe defects with the right pad, liquid, & technique.

the larger the throw the easier it is to stall on body panels that are not flat. More stall = no correction. The benefit with an 8mm throw polisher is you can also use a smaller backing plate and 3 inch pads in addition to the 5 inch pads on that respective backing plate...so no need for 2 polishers.
