Help! Very bad haze!

Hi guys,

hope you are all well.

Ive has a go at detailing my Porsche this week. Washed and clay bar, megs ultimate compound and then ultimate polish using DA. IPA wipe with micro fibre between stages. Now there is terrible haze! I think I worked too hard with micro fibre to get it all off. Compounding again hasn’t helped!

Can you tell us more about your process? Did you do this inside or outside?

What type of towels did you use?

IPA is not the best prep wipe. It can swell the paint and it also does not provide the best lubrication.

Thanks. Outside. Washed and Clay bar on day one. Day 2 dual action polisher with cutting pad and UC. IPA wipe down with megs cloths. Day 3 UP with DA finishing pad and IPA wipe down. Hazing noticed, tried UP with harder pad, no joy, UC with cutting pad and still no joy. Paint thickness down to 70. Have now stopped!

Sorry to hear about the trouble.

How large of an area are you applying these products in at a time? What D/A are you using? How many passes would you say you are applying in one section?

My initial reaction after reading your description = I would try re-applying Ultimate Compound, but with a fresh, clean Meguiar's Soft Buff D/A Yellow Foam Polishing Pad. My gut is saying that both the foam cutting disc used & the IPA/wipe off technique are causing this haze/appearance issue.

Thanks Nick. I’ve been making probably 4 passes on average. 2ft x 2ft for compounding and twice that for polish... it’s a von haus d/a polisher.
