  • Need some suggestions

Hello everyone! I have some question about a paint problem. I just bought a 2019 challenger a month ago. With the weather how its been ive kept it inside. I decided to give it a good wash a couple weeks ago. After the wash I claybarred and applied some of the meguiars quik wax. Car looked great I thought! Well come a few days ago, I washed it and applied some quik wax again as I felt I could of applied it better than last time. It looked good in the lighting I was in, I was in the garage drive in for a car wash. The next day I noticed it was smeared, probably from me applying too much and not buffing it out enough. After I washed it I drove to a gas station to check under the lights if I got all the smears off. I noticed I had a type of film on my paint. It has splotches in it and theres a perfect triangle shape in the film where the paint is fine and smoothe. Theres also a perfect line where it cuts off from smooth to rough on my hood and roof. Its only visible in certain lights, but its all over the car. Almost looks like a yellowish film over the paint. As I said its smoothe in some spots and then theres that like where it cuts off and is rough again. I tryed to claybar it and the film was still there.. so I imagine its etched in. I used mothers gold clay bar kit. The car looks great in most lighting, but gas station lights and certain angles under my garage light i can barely see it. I dont want to do anything more than claybar without figuring out what you guys think! Im very new to detailing, and cantfind anything online about this. Thanks in advance!!

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online.

If I understand correctly, the issue at hand is a streaky film correct? Or is there another issue which is not a streaky, smeary film.

I got the smeary and streakiness from the wax off, I feel this was on the car when I bought it possible but not sure. Its super hard for me to explain as I have no idea how to. Its just a film over my paint that the clay didnt get off. Only noticable under certain lights, almost looks like pollen stained in my clear?? Its definitely more rough rubbung my finger over the spots that has it than the spots in it that looks fine. Possibly calcium?

Its just weird how it is. Theres like a pefectly straight line where it cuts off and the paint is smooth again in some areas.

Is your car white & the spots orange? Do these spots actually feel rough to the touch?

My car is the octane red. Its not necessarily spots, its just like most of the hood is like that besides a 1/3 of it. Theres a perfect triangle shape right in the middle of the film where the paint is smoothe. Like I said real hard to see, I would get pics but I cant get good ones at the moment as its really hard to notice, it is rough where it is though. Thanks for working with my ignorance on this subject lol

I think we are going to need to see pictures in order to properly assess & advise.
