  • Ultimate wax very streaky

    Hi,

I have always used this product and loved it. Applied to my new 2019 Tuscon and when I finished the vehicle was very streaky? Never happened before? The product was applied in the shade and I did the entire vehicle before removing which is what I always did. It looks really bad especially when overcast. Someone said I could over with a damp microfiber towel and it should blend the wax in? Is this true or do I have to go over the entire vehicle again?

Have always been a huge Meguiar's supporter and never had this issue in the past.

Can anyone out there provide some assistance here?

    Thanking you in advance.

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. First, yes, it is true that you can go over with a damp towel or quick detailer & in most cases this will remedy the streaky look. It's possible that on the next wash of the vehicle this will be remedied as well.

Ultimate Liquid Wax can be applied to the entire vehicle, left to dry, and then removed, however when applying the product this way, it is a little more important that it be applied super thin & even, opposed to applying to a section at a time, a user can "get away" with applying it more normal/heavy. Not saying you used to much but again just stating we have found when it is applied to the whole vehicle at a time, it is important it is applied thin & even.

As you mentioned another option would be to go over the vehicle again, when the vehicle is clean & dry of course, applying thin to a section, wipe off after 3 minutes minimum. This is all the dry time this product requires.

Did you happen to evaluate for above surface bonded contaminants on this new Tuscon? If the vehicle does have rough feeling contaminants, this could have contributed to the streaky application experience.

While not required, if a polish has not been used on the vehicle in a long time, the use of a polish or cleaner wax prior to applying your premium main source of protection will typically always make the wax application process much easier.

Please understand I am not trying to find what you did wrong etc., but products can have quirks. We try to work all of them out so the product performs effortlessly no matter the condition of the paint or how it is applied, temperature, humidity, etc. but especially with a product like Ultimate Liquid Wax which has unique features like not drying white on trim whatsoever, can be used in full sun, it can slightly more sensitive than other products.

Hey Nick...thank you for the timely response! I will try the damp towel and if that does not work I will go over the vehicle, panel at a time with light coat and hopefully that will bring back that incredible finish I usually get.

      Thanks again very much appreciated!

yep, spray some quik wax on the cloth before hand. products smear when they adhese at different rates due to cleanliness of the paint, i like to use Ult polish before the wax for the gloss and scratch hiding ability.
