  • First time polishing question

After watching countless youtube videos, I decided to get a DA polisher and give it a try.
    My gear-
    MT300 polisher
    Meguiars ultimate compound
    Meguiars ultimate polish

I started with the hood. Results were impressive for the effort I had to put in.
There were a few spots/areas that I was expecting the compound would fix. But looks like the paint damage is more severe than it looks-

Looks like paint has chipped away.
Is there a way to fix this by compound/polish?
Also, the hood was super smooth after polishing. But after couple of days, it feels rough. Is this just dust on the surface that I can wipe off using a microfiber cloth?

I also tried ultimate compound on windshield to try and get rid of scratches/swirl marks. But results were not impressive.
Should I try Glass polishing compound?

    Re: First time polishing question

Welcome to the forum. From experience that looks like the early signs of clear coat failure. The only way to fix that is a repaint.

As far as glass polishing, glass is a very hard surface and takes a lot of work. Mike Phillips has some articles on glass polishing that you may want to reference.

Did you clay the paint prior to applying compound? Above surface Contaminants are typically what makes paint feel rough & clay is most effective way to remove these.
