  • Trouble removing deep scratches and stains

I finished detailing outside of car - my first time "deep" cleaning the paint. After multiple attempts, I still have some scratches and stains. I used a DA orbital polished with medium cut 6" pad, Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish then waxed. I do not believe the Ultimate Compound is cutting enough to remove the remaining issues.

Looking for recommendations on a deeper cutting compound.

    Cheers, Keith

Any chance of a photo or two to see what is being worked on? And info about the paint / stain, etc?

There are many situations where a more aggressive combination is required. A good next step up is our D/A Microfiber Cutting Disc with our D/A Microfiber Correction Compound.

Murr, I think the photos are now in the thread - stored on the gallery.

This looks like a bird dropping etching. May need some wet sanding to remove it.

                      Thanks Michael.

Any way to cover the clear coat fracture until repainting?

Try this Keith to get your images to show inside your posts:
Click on your link above to get back to the gallery.
Click on the smaller version of the image you wish to include.
Scroll down, past the larger image and into the lines of HTML code.
Locate the line that says: HTML CODE. It will also include the characters img source.
Highlight the code in the box and then copy it. You can use "Control C" to copy if on a PC.
Now paste that code into your post.

Unfortunately there is not. It is the compound and polish that has gotten into those fractures.

Re: Trouble removing deep scratches and stains

                            Hi Keith,

I would agree with Guz regarding the "scratches" it appears to be a type of common clear coat fracturing which is essentially a form of failure. No way to repair or hide to my knowledge besides repainting.

Regarding the stain, this is something that could potentially come out by getting more aggressive. I really need to do an article on how to perform a spot stain or stain removal, but essentially, the below recommendations all apply, but you just decrease your working area to the scratch/stain, and then shorten the amount of passes.

                            D/A Polisher Basics with Meguiar's MT300

If you could answer these questions, we can help guide further:

What exact dual action polisher machine are you using?

What exact backing plate it is equipped with?

What exact pads do you have?
