Ultimate Liquid/Xpress wax vs. Liquid Ceramic/Cermic Detailer

Long time Meguiars fan, first post. Currently been using liquid wax and Xpress wax as drying agent. Looking to make the switch to the newer products but have been reading mixed things on them. Car is silver if that makes a difference. If I make the switch would it be ok or beneficial to apply liquid ceramic on top of ULW?

I remember reading your thread and was going to let others chime in first so you could hear what people have to think but I can tell you these products are about the most exciting & popular new products we have ever had. If you are going to try them, for best results, I would suggest applying our Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax on a freshly polished & contaminant free paint, preparing with products like our Ultimate Polish & Smooth Surface Clay Kit if needed. Then maintain with our Hybrid Ceramic Wax Spray & Hybrid Ceramic Detailer. One thing is that products which don't utilize the similar chemistry like Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax will negate the water beading characteristics of the Hybrid Ceramic Wax if you use for maintenance. You have to stick with the Hybrid Ceramic Product Line, Spray Wax or Spray Detailer, to maintain the base coat. Also, if you just want to try out & see the technology, you can use our Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax to top anything & it's quick & easy to check out after a wash.

Stick with one or the either for product synergy. No need to top ultimate wax with HCLW or vice versa. Like Nick mentioned stick with the ceramic family for best performance.

Thank you for the reply! I was a long time fan of the ultimate line but did make the switch to the ceramic line. Applied liquid ceramic to my brand new car and have been using the ceramic spray wax as a drying aid. Love the smoothness and water beading but def feel as though the ultimate line “looks” better. Would it be ok to stick with the liquid ceramic since the protection is so good and use the ultimate quick wax as a topper? I wash the car 1-2 times a week so not massively concerned with the water beading aspect of the ceramic as opposed to just protecting my paint and giving it the best look. Car is silver if it makes a difference, maybe the “look” of the ultimate is just in my head...regardless I love all your products.

ultimate quik wax will negate not only the beading but the self cleaning a ceramic product has. Try putting both combos side by side on the paint. On silver you won't notice a difference.

Bill I love the ultimate paste wax. My fav go to for years. But it’s a dust magnet. The ceramic based products are not. That’s a game changer for me.

I wouldnt.

Just use one or the other. The effort to difference to longevity ratio will be way off.

Ceramics like clean paint to cling to, so use in a different manner... if you stick all manner of solvents, waxes, emulsifiers underneath, you will just harm the longevity of the ceramic.

Ok, sounds like I’ll just stick to the ceramic line. Is it okay if I use the liquid ceramic as my base and use the blue spray as a drying aid every time I wash? Or would the detailer be better as a drying aid?

Detailers have solventd which can strip wax, some dont, some do.

If sealants are your thing they do a detailer spray ceramic.

Personally i only like ceramics etc for winter as you spend less time outside - in summer they dont offer the best looks.
