  • Bird etching - Ultimate Compound didn't work

    Hey guys!

Okay so I decided to remove bird poop stain from my black car, I was able to remove completely some but there is one which can't be removed. After looking online I understood this type of etching can't be removed with polish, I am attaching a photo here below and wonder if there is anything I can do to remove it. Thanks a lot!!

Thanks a lot for your response! I just want to make sure I got this right please

First you clean the area then we sanding then Polish and lastly Wax?

Sorry about my stupid question but Wet Sanding won't cause any scratches to the area? The reason I ask is when I use paper sanding to smooth out my wall before painting it leaves some minor scratches, I am sure this is completely different and way more finer but will appreciate that so much if you clarify Thanks again!

Dozens of youtube videos on wet sanding. Watch some first. Yes the sanding causes fine scratches, then the polish takes them out. This assumes the etching hasn't gone through the clearcoat, in which case you may have to get it painted.

          Awesome! thanks a lot

Does it possible to tell by my photo if it has gone through the clearcoat or not? And if it is, the Wet sanding may cause some damage or not at all?

Can't tell from the picture but the upper one looks worse. Wet sanding could break through the clear coat and look worse. Might try some black polish first like https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Wax-T-.../dp/B00062ZJ4O or rub some automatic transmission fluid on the spots so they don't stand out as much..

These are definitely on the severe side, you can see that they have actually caused the paint to micro crack. When the paint has micro cracked like this, even if you decide to attempt to wet sand to remove/diminish look, it is likely a significant amount of the top clear coat has been impacted. Sanding OEM Automotive Paint is not something we recommend attempting without doing some research on process. And yes, you may be able to diminish the appearance of this, but again, it appears the factory paint has been significantly impacted in this area, and considering the UV protection in the clear coat sits at the top, the damage, combined with sanding, you can expect this area will fail quicker or more easily in the future.

Here is an article you can reference, feel free to ask any many additional questions as you wish:

Hi Nick, thank you so much for your detailed response.

This is a brand new car, I feel so stupid for not cleaning that dam poop right when I saw it atleast the Ultimate compound removed all the others, I didn't know it could actually stain the car but at least I learnt it on i20 and not BMW :d

Okay so if I understood correctly, wet sanding may make the area look better but will remove the UV protection and this area may look worst in the future. What if I wax this area every 2 months? Would that help?

                2) Is there a chance that it just won't do anything and even make things worst? Maybe I should just accept it? The entire car looks like new, super shiny especially after I removed minor defects with the polish and used wax afterwards, it really looks like it just came out from the manufacture besides that etching D:

If you think Wet sanding may help, I will do a research and go for it, one important note is the Ultimate compound didn't do ANYTHING to this area, I actually gave it three tries.

                Thanks again!

I offer a sincere apology if I violate any forum rule, for posting a youtube link. Delete the video if I make a mistake.
The following video showed me how to eliminate bird feces.
