  • Paint still a little rough after claying.

I clay barred my whole car with the Meguirs clay bar but I can still feel a little roughness when I run my fingers over it with my hand in a plastic bag. Do I need to redo it or move on to using the Ultimate compound.
I've just bought a Bauer DA polisher from Harbor Freight and three of their pads. 1. Orange Compound/cutting, 2.blue polishing and 3. Black finishing.
The car is garage kept and the paint is in good condition. Which pad should I use with the Ultimate compound ?

Personally I would clay again, are you using our Smooth Surface Clay Kit? Also, you could also use a product like our Iron Removing Spray Clay, which removes any embedded iron based contaminants. This is something you would use on a clean & dry car, like after washing. You would use prior to claying again, if needed. The below thread should help you in determining which pad to start with. You can start with your polishing pad, perform a test spot, and if that does not remove the defects to your satisfaction, move up to your compound pad. More info in thread below:

Hope this helps & feel free to ask as many questions as you would like.

Yes I used the smooth surface clay kit. Does Meguirsmake a more aggressive clay? Where can I purchase the iron removing spray clay.

Yes, we have a couple, our C2000 Professional Mild Detailing Clay is a step above in aggressiveness compared to our Smooth Surface Clay Kit. We also have our C2100 Professional Aggressive Detailing Clay, however, this will commonly haze the paint, & the paint will require machine polishing to remove. Meguiar's Iron Removing Spray Clay is sold at auto parts stores like AutoZone, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Pep Boys, and Advance Auto Parts.

Yeah, an iron or tar remover spray could be a good idea first, esp if you feel like you will have to really rub the clay into the paint. Spraying and rinsing is much gentler... even though it is buying one or two more things.

Some of the cleanest paints come from those who go to a local handwash place

Yes, the most swirls in clearcoat too, but the paint is spotless - why? TFR.

The chemicals of TFR melt away everyting, used regularly clean the paint

Id go get some cheap TFR spray on and then check your paint, it will have softened everything up for re-clay
