  • Single stage paint care

Big fan of Meguiar’s products for years. Looking for product and application advice on Single stage paint. I have a 1988 Mercedes 560sl in signal red. The paint is in overall good condition but looking to eliminate hairline scratches, swirl marks and obtain brightest shine possible. The vehicle is garage kept and only driven in fair weather. Confused between Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish and Show Glaze #7. Also, is clay recommended on single stage paint? Finally, what would be the recommended wax or sealant? Any advice would be appreciated.

UC is for heavy, do this once
    Follow up with UP

Clay only if eeded, run your fingers along the paint with a plastic bag, if you feel bumps, its needed.

Wax will give better shine and add a summer glow, less durability but many dont go long without reaplying anyway out of hobby.

Selants are like being dipped in nail varnish, durable but plastic looking

      Welcome to MOL.

You may need to clay but you will have to determine that by feeling the surface of the paint. It is fine to clay single stage paint.

If the paint is a bit faded then follow Mike's directions with M7 in the video. To remove defect well the first thing you want to do is a test spot. All you may need is ultimate polish.

As far as protection you have many options. It is going to be personal preference. If you want to stay with a wax then M26 is a good option. If you want to go the sealant route you have the option of going with NXT (M21 is the professional version) or Ultimate Wax.

The M21/M26 is a forum favorite.

If you want to venture into the ceramic infused products well you have hybrid ceramic liquid wax which is available locally or you can venture into the ceramic infused sealant M27. These are applied like a wax or sealant. A panel wipe is recommended prior to application.
