  • Removing Hot Tire shine...

First off been using the aerosol Meguiars Tire Hot Shine with great results. Its super shiney, it has no sling off onto the car, everything great. Too great actually... now I have a buildup of goo on the my tires that if a small child gets within 3 feet they're instantly covered in black tar. I attempted to remove it and havent had much luck. I've tried dawn, purple degreaser, scrub brush, rags, etc... its just 6 months of layered unpenetrable goo.

What has anyone used that actually breaks this stuff down? I was surprised that purple power or super clean doesnt even make a dent. I kinda need to avoid letting it soak in as it is extremely problematic for my aluminum wheels.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

      Re: Removing Hot Tire shine...

Hello & welcome to Meguiar's Online. First off, very nice & very clean truck from a fellow truck enthusiast. If you can remember, let me know if you ever end up selling is as I may be interested.

Ok so onto the build up of tire shine & removal. As a fellow member The Guz has mentioned above, Meguiar's D143 Non Acid Wheel & Tire Cleaner straight up would be recommended here. This product is typically only available in a gallon but is now also available in a smaller size, our new Professional Detailer "RTU" Product Line, which is sold in auto parts stores like Autozone, O'Reilly Auto Parts, and Pep Boys. I will link to it below. If you want the gallon, it is primarily sold in large warehouse style channels of Pro distribution, online, and local detailing supply stores.

As far as application goes, we would recommend using plastic & taping off the wheel to protect the wheel as this is not a product you want to use on your wheels, it could stain especially if they are uncoated raw aluminum. Allow the product to dwell on the sidewall for 45 seconds, & keep it wet with more product if you have to, keep from drying, and begin to agitate with a brush. One tire at a time. Rinsing thoroughly when complete.

Thanks for the response I'll give that a shot and post up some results along with masking off the wheel as they are just polished unprotected aluminum. I did a training way back in the day with Mike Phillips at your location in Irvine with an old car club I was in and still use those techniques along with your products to keep everything nice and shiny.
