Agreed to not over think it, but also just wanted to chime in that when using an iron decontaminating product, it should ideally be applied to a clean & dry vehicle, like after washing & drying. A unique feature about Meguiar's D1801 Wheel & Paint IRON DECON is that it has a solvent de-greasing package built into the product. This will further help let the special color changing chemical get to the embedded ferrous based contaminants for removal. You won't find this with most other Iron Decontaminating products. Agitating after allowing to dwell & thoroughly rinsing is also recommended.

Would I be correct to Iron decon those areas, wash, clay, surface prep, wax? I have asked this already, yet I am still apprehensive on how to proceed.
Well, if you cant tell what the grainyness is, its a bit hard to say.

A light spray of an iron decon product wont hurt anything, as you would be planning to detail after.

A grainy spot could be iron, tar, sap, bug guts, overspray, bad paint.... So it could need iron decon, could need tar remover, could need stronger clay, could need a pass of Ult. Compound or similar.

But iron decon would be the gentlest way to proceed. Or the Wheel and Paint Iron Decon that Nick mentioned to get some tar as well.

And yes, your process is the right idea.

Thanks Nick, I agree that these things can be over thought. Interesting you say that, maybe i will wash, dry and then iron decon and rinse. Is a rinse enough before drying and going to a clay or do you need to wash again?

Here in Aus i can get some of the Megs Wheel and Paint IRON DECON but it only comes in a bulk container. I guess i would always end up using it, i'm just worried i would not even use half of it before the 3-5 year expiration you guys say your products have.

When you say "Agitating after allowing to dwell & thoroughly rinsing is also recommended", do you mean agitating after rinsing the Iron decon off? In that case, maybe another quick was is in order?

I would look at the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer (green bottle), or the Hybrid Ceramic Spray (blue bottle) as the maintenance after regular washes.

TarX is good as well, though that does need agitated a bit on the surface. I'd plan on it removing wax and stuff though, so that is kind of a twice a year thing for me as well, unless really bad. So IronX, TarX, wash.

And well, you know, there's always the interior....

I already have my interior process sorted with a Quick Detailer, New Car Scent protector and glass cleaner etc... I'm not going to research any further interior products on purpose...

Yeah, I have half a bottle of Ult.wax and just trying to use it up tbh. I do like the 'darker' look it gives the car for that week before i put HCW on anyway so that is something.
I actually just bought some Hybrid Ceramic Detailer as one of the auto shops here had a 35% off Megs sale. I also bought 2 of everything else

I'm trying to figure out where this fits in for me. I already Apply the HCW maybe monthly with a maintenance wash and i wash weekly. Here in Aus the HCW is only a tiny bit more than the Detailer so for me it makes more sense to just buy the HCW spray wax and use that a little more often as it almost works out the same cost but is adding a whole new layer of wax rather than just 'boosting' properties.

I understand the Detailer can also be used for inbetween washes and waxes but tbh i already wash once a week and i don't really have the time to go over the car with a detailer inbetween and unless it rains it looks pretty good inbetween washes anyhow. I also try and stay away from detailers if i can as my car is black and has very soft paint and i think they may do more good than bad for me. I can use the Hybrid Detailer for spot cleans of droppings etc i guess.

I also have a bottle of Ult. Detailer to use up now as well! Need to find a use for that.

Does the TarX go all over the car or just spot use?

Yeah, its all about what works best for you.

One thing with the detailers is they can be used while drying. So one wipe to get the bulk of water, then one wipe with a spray to remove the last drops.

TarX could be spot or all over... whatever is needed. For me around wheel wells is the worse spots....

Would you use the same drying towel for both wipes? I have 2 drying towels currently and i use one (that becomes soaked) for the first wipe then the other for the final wipe to dry. Probably not a great idea for swirls i guess and maybe drying with a detailer would help prevent that!
