  • Most gentle swirl remover product?

I just bought a new 2021 Camaro in black... I have been detailing for 15 years or so and have had black cars prior. Using a wide range of Meg's products and pads, never had any issue getting that showroom shine on various vehicles. However, the GM clear on the Camaro is super soft. Easy to correct, but difficult to get a perfect finish.

Detailed it on Friday to remove dealer-installed swirls/blemishes and get a coat of the Meg's Ceramic Sealant on it. I picked up M205 and with my DA, worked a small area with a standard cutting pad. However, this left micro-marring even though it easily removed the swirls. I switched to a finishing (black) pad, which was better, but still I have signs of micro-marring. I tried applying M205 by hand, various levels of work time with the DA, speed settings, etc... It seems I need something more gentle than M205. In the sun the car still looks great, it's mainly just showing when under bright LED lighting that I notice. I assume if I can get rid of it, I would bring in even more depth to the paint.

I also tried a section with Scratch X 2.0 and Ultimate Compound, but same deal. Tried both with the finishing pad.

I'd imagine I need something gentle with diminishing abrasives to clear the marring left behind. What Meg's product is best for that? Would #9 be that product?

    Appreciate any help and feedback.

Scratchx and Ultimate Compound are more aggressive than M205 so that is expected. M205 has been known to not finish out well on soft paint which is why M210 is now available. You may want to consider it.

Excellent, thank you! I was not aware of that product, but it looks promising.

As far as Scratch-X and Ultimate Compound, absolutely. I was aware, but I know some products have different types of abrasives so it was just a trial to see how well it finished out. But as expected, no better.

Here is the M210 Product Announcement thread.
Note as you read through that some experienced users mention going from the soft polishing pads to a slightly stiffer pad and got better results.
Hopefully Nick will confirm that for us.

Additionally, consider that paint residue may be collecting in your polishing pad.
The residue may then be causing the marring.
Possibly frequent cleaning and more frequent replacement of the pad may reduce residue marring and provide a better M205 finish.

Kevin Brown of Buff Daddy has this article on his website.
Although you will enjoy all of the article on using M205 for cutting, I would like to focus your attention to the section starting at the bottom of page 8.

M205 Ultra Finishing Polish does at times have trouble finishing out completely D/A Haze free. That said, there are some techniques you can use to get it to finish, 1 would be to ensure the pad is primed with M205, but then blow out the pad thoroughly with a compressed air blow gun, then maybe add a drop or two or no additional product, perform a section pass, maybe back a forth 1-2-3 times. You can also incorporate the use a very light mist of water onto the paint. As other mentioned, M210 Ultra Pro Finishing Polish, you can pretty much through on a pad and not even try and it will finish out. We have seen where M210 does like our Soft Buff D/A Yellow Foam Polishing Disc over our Soft Buff D/A Black Foam Finishing Disc (likely due to being a stiffer pad).

Agreed, very important to clean pad after ever pass with compressed air blow gun when dealing with haze sensitive paint.

If you need something immediately, try Ultimate Polish.
