Hello everyone. I live in San Jose and am new to the forum and to automotive detailing in general. I am a retired systems and software engineer who has worked for aerospace companies that make heavy equipment, and I love being around vehicles.
I just acquired a new 2020 Subaru Ascent and thought this would be a great opportunity to learn how a professional detailer would clean and maintain a new vehicle, learn how to correctly fix some small paint chips, learn how to remove minor scratches to the clear coat and polish it without excessive wear, and after after that, apply a top quality protective product. From what I have read over the past few weeks, it is quite involved and takes significant skill to do correction work right, but I now have time to learn correctly and take it slow. Just learning how a detailer washes and maintains a vehicle has been eye opening, so I started out by acquiring good quality cleaning gear and Meguiar's Gold Class car wash. I had no idea how much ceramic coatings, microfiber, and dual action long throw polishers have transformed the car care world.
Looking forward to browsing the forums and sharing experiences.
