Question Paint sealant for UV protection

    Hi guys,

Total newby here. I'm about to go pick up my 'new' 2018 red outback.
I was wondering what's the best paint sealant to prevent fading of that nice red pearl colour?

    I don't think I'll fall for the dealer's offer (250$ for a 5-years guaranteed paint sealant).
Seems more than a bit overpriced.

But I'm looking for something good against UV and not too complicated to apply as DIY.

Ceramic is not an option until I have time (or the budget) to correct the paint which will wait until next summer.

    thanks,

    Crazy Vinny

I can tell you the Hybrid Ceramic wax (spray) seems to be doing a good job for me and is very easy to apply.

clear coat degradation occurs 50% every 10-years. Of course there are exceptions to this but that is the median. So unless you never plan on waxing/sealing/coating your car yourself, no it is not worth it.

To keep the paint looking good, wax the car 4-6x/year; or use a paint sealant 2-3x/year; or use a ceramic coating every 1-2 years depending on what you purchase (consumer grade vs pro grade).

Do you plan on using a topper when you dry (i.e. quick wax or the similar)? This can easily prolong the base layer and make application extend. All waxes/sealants/coating (liquid, spray, or paste) all have UV protection in it, so pick what you like. It may be worth looking into product details like do you prefer sheeting or beading. Products that bead are more prone to water spots where products that sheet are not.

Your question reminds me of a webinar we have been presenting lately, How to get started Detailing your Car At Home. Within we have been highlighting some of our "Important Basics." Briefly, these consist of the importance of washing, above surface contaminant removal, & paint protection. When it comes to protection, like others have mentioned, there are several options, all with their own unique characteristics & pros/cons. IMO based on what you are looking for, I would suggest checking out our Hybrid Ceramic Product Line, specifically our Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax, & then maintaining with Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax and/or Hybrid Ceramic Detailer. These products are delivering our highest amount of protection in a DIY friendly application as well as other significant benefits.

Congrats on the new to you & look forward to hearing what you end up going with,.

    Wow!

Thanks a lot for all the replies.
I will certainly look up the HCSW (and companion products) if it's available here up north.
The new car will be my wife's daily driver so I'll make sure to add up a topper to our maintenance regimen.

If I understood correctly, a coating would be the 'base layer' which would then be topped with a wax/sealant? Is that correct?
I'm guessing it's not too complicated to remove a sealant layer before doing paint correction (followed by a coating), right?

    Thanks again,

    Crazy Vinny

You'd want to tip that coating with something like Bead Booster, or maybe the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer. At least I would.

Most sealants can be removed with a finishing polish like M210, or Ultimate Polish.
