Having Issues Using UC, seem to be adding fine swirls while removing heavy swirls

Hey, Just joined the forum and I'm having a weird issue. I bought UC to get rid of pretty heavy swirls on my car. Any who started working it in to the bonnet and I got what I thought was a perfect finish, I probably didn't look well enough because I seemed to add super fine swirls. I did a small test and they are being added by my pad which is a Meguairs applicator pad that ships with the Gold Class Wax. Am I using too much pressure or what am I doing wrong, I have been using firm pressure to do this work and I've clay barred the surface and prepped it before this. Should I purchase a DA ? I've been using circular motions to do this work.

Using a polish, like our Ultimate Polish, on a separate clean soft foam applicator pad, should remove the "fine swirls" you are experiencing. This is quite normal. Some paints you can apply a product like our Ultimate Compound & be left with a perfect finish. Other paints are more sensitive, does not necessarily have anything to do with quality, just a characteristic of the clear coat, and using a wide variety of products can leave behind light "micro marring" or "fine swirls". Again, quite normal, and these can be removed with a polish, like our Ultimate Polish.

You do not absolutely need a D/A Polisher to complete this task but in general D/A Polishers do have a lot of benefits over working by hand.

Thank you for the reply nick, I really appreciate it ! I thought Ultimate Polish worked more like a filler and that it didn't have much cutting power. Would something like a cleaner wax not help in this regard or is that a temporary solution while Ultimate Polish would work as a permanent one ? Just asking because I'd like to be clear on UP's cutting ability before I make a purchase !

P.S I did apply the cleaner wax and the fine swirls returned after a few weeks so I'm sure that the cleaner wax is temporary. Would like to know about UP though.

The regular A12 Cleaner Wax by hand most likely doesn't have the teeth to remove that damage.

If you wanted to combine the polishing and waxing steps, try the 3 in 1 wax.

And yes, Ultimate Polish definitely has some cutting ability. I use it a lot with heavy polishing foams, or polishing microfiber pads for "one step" polishing.

The thing is that although the swirls are quite fine they are all across the paint, recently I took my car to a body shop to repaint a few panels and upon closer inspection it seems these are buffer swirls all over the paint because all the panels that I havent compounded have the exact same fine swirls aswell, along with all the heavier ones. Do you think I should cave in and purchase the DA ? I dont think the polish would get these out

You are facing the limitation of what the hand can do. A dual action polisher will net you better results. A body shop often leaves more unwanted defects. They will use a rotary and leave the paint with swirls and rotary holograms. A machine is going to be your best bet to get a majority of them out. You are seeing them now because the glaze they use has been washed off.

Ultimate Polish has the ability to permanently refine the paint finish & remove swirls. Any product applied to paint that is leaving something behind, like polishing oils, has a natural ability to fill to a certain extent.

Cleaner Wax is not designed to fill, it is just doing that naturally for the certain defect you have present.

As others have mentioned, you are going to likely need a D/A to remove rotary inflicted holograms/buffer trails.
