  • 3 in 1 Ultimate Wax, so is polishing a waste?

I'm planning to get the 3 in 1 Ultimate wax and since it is already says clean polish and protect, would polishing before that be redundant and a waste or should I still use the Ultimate Polish first and then use the 3 in 1 wax?

3 in 1 Wax is what is known in the industry as an All In One (AIO) product that polishes and then leaves behind protection. It depends on the condition of your paint. If it has only minor imperfections some light scratches, then an AIO will work to both correct and protect. If you have heavier damage then you'll have to use a product dedicated to correct defects before applying the protection. How do you determine if you can use an AIO or need to use a polish to correct? Do a test spot. Try the AIO on a 2' X 2' square and after finishing that inspect it. if you achieved the desired results then you can do the whole car, if after using the AIO there are still a high level of imperfections then you will need to start with a polish, and then finish with either a wax or an AIO. So try a test spot and see where you're at. By the way 3 in 1 Wax is a great product easy on easy off and can correct a lot of minor imperfections.

The level of cut between Ultimate Polish, and 3 in 1 Wax is probably similar. I haven't used 3 in 1, but have used their pro version D166 Ultra Polishing Wax, which is said to be similar.

However, if you need more correction, Ultimate Compound followed by 3 in 1 would be a great plan of attack.
