  • Returning with a new car.

Last week I purchased a new Subaru Crosstrek with pearl white paint. I have product coming (G6107) to address the white, but the is a large amount of textured plastic that I have never had deal with before.

I do not believe that the Hybrid Ceramic will pose any issues, but do or should I treat the plastic before applying the Hybrid Ceramic? There are also some small parts on the car that are black and I would think to keep the G6107 away from it. As it does happen from time to time, will the G6107 clog up the plastic?

    Puzzled and confused.

Painters tape can be good if you have a lot of work to do.

Some people will also dress the plastic first, with Ult. Black or whatever, then wait till the end to wipe off any excess, which can help with any splatter...

Any surface on the exterior which is smooth, glossy & painted, whether the substrate is metal or plastic, you can wax, even with our G6107 White Wax, a discontinued, but great product...although marketed towards white or light colors, it can be used on any color, it is just formulated to perform best on light colors.

Raw, non painted, non glossy black plastic, which is used on many vehicles - we would recommend a product like our G15812 Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer.

Many waxes can leave behind white residue in these non painted exterior black plastics, any mild automotive all purpose cleaner, our M39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner, or our DRTU Citrus Power Cleaner Plus can make easy work to remove the residue if you do not get to it right away, and then you can follow with your favorite conditioner/protectant (i.e. Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer or DRTU Hyper Dressing)

Hope this information was helpful. Feel free to post further questions.

Nice tip about dressing first, I will give that a try.

I have several rolls of painters tape which I use so it will be white, black & blue before I start.

So Nick, regarding G200416 Ceramic Wax, can I assume the there are NO cleaners in this product as I want to stack it to make sure everything is covered. If I can, how long do I wait to apply the second coat so that it will not be rejected by the first coat?

my two buckets are at the ready, the clay and Ultimate polish are standing by, so all I need is the word from you on how best to proceed.

Can you remind me of what your full process is going to be? Are you still using White Wax? Also, correct no cleaners in our Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax & 24 hours in-between coats would be ideal.

Re: Returning with a new car.

My process is simple, 1) two bucket wash with grit guard in rinse bucket. 2) clay entire car, 3) ultimate polish entire car, 4) wash car again to remove any leftover polish, 5) read directions on ceramic ‘wax’, 6) apply ceramic wax with porter cable with finishing pad one panel at a time, 7) buff with microfiber, 8) wait 24 hours and repeat step 6 & 7, 9) sit back with a beer and admire the shine

this may take a total of 3-4 days depending on the temperature outside.

I will try to post pictures of my work on the white Subaru, and of my red rocket GTI which was my introduction to Meguiars products.
