  • Meguiars 3 in 1 leaving black residue on pad

    Hi guys

Recently i waxed my car using the 3 in 1, which is an excellent product btw..I was amazed at the results, with superb swirl removal along with the trademark meguiars rich gloss finish👍

However i noticed a lot of residue (dirt?) on the pad..it was applied with a DA and the car was clayed prior also..please see pictures, im just a bit curious as to what it is??

Sounds like dirt off the paint or trim.

Agreed, very likely black coming off of the rubber trim as you wax.

Ok, however i took extra care to tape of any black trims and the car was clayed..also i struggled slightly whilst applying with a DA, it was a bit gummy but I was using minimal amount of product maybe i need to be more liberal and i was not cleaning the pad on the fly like I would if compounding..please advise on this

You paint may have had old wax/sealant or oxidation on it.

Years ago when I was using M20 Polymer Sealant, each spring when I'd redo the vehicles, it would get gummy as well. The paint would look clean, but the applicator would reveal the level of gunk on the paint.

Adding a touch more product should help smooth things out, but the best remedy I have used was swapping out to a clean and dry applicator or pad.
