Have the rules about editing a post been changed?

I tried to edit 2 of my most recent posts today, but I got a message that informed me that I only had 2 minutes from the time of the original post to edit a post.

At least I think that's what it said.

It used to be that we had at least 24hours, or something like that.

      Here's what the message says....

The administrator has specified that you can only edit messages for 2 minutes after you have posted. This limit has expired, so you must contact the administrator to make alterations on your message.

I just had the same problem. 2 minutes with a 56k connection is not a lot of time. I hope the edit time is fixed soon.

I made this change this week after running into a problem answering someone's post, only to have them go back and change their words, this led to a messed-up, off-topic thread that included a lot of wasted time typing on my part.

So I reduced the amount of time a person has to edit their threads to 2 minutes. It's kind of like protection.

Why don't you folks suggest some time limits and I'll adjust, I don't think I'll go back to how it was though which was no limit at all. This is okay for the majority of our members, but once in a while someone takes advantage of it.

                Bummer... I don't know a 30 min time period?!?!?

Is there a way to alow an edit on one post... Say the "Meguiars Acronyms"? I would like to keep it up to date.

Yes, that's how it was. But it leads to abuse by a few bad apples. I would prefer to have a reasonable limit with the idea that when you're posting, take time to make sure you say what you mean and mean what you say before clicking on the Submit Reply button.

It also helps to use this cool little app...

Most of the forums that I have dealt with allow for a minimum of 24 hours to edit a post.

I think 24 to 48 hours would be a good idea, but I guess some exceptions would have to be made for gb's sake.

I do understand why a time limit would be set... I would have never thought to change a posts and shade it one way or another after it had been discussed?!?! Some people mess it up for everyone!

I just don't want my time and effort in the Acronyms to go to waste... I hope the acronym list is being used by all. I know I enjoy keeping it going and up to date, helping anyone who needs clarification on all the crazy #'s and letters for new and old members! I know at the moment most of the links do not work, now that it appears the Meguiars "Estore" is open, I would like to fix all the links.

Ok... enough on that just a little bummed about the whole thing!

gb I guess you could ask Mike to fix any broken links..........But on the other hand, that would be more work for him to do.

Is it possible to allow edits until the "reply" button has been pressed?

Or is it possible to make edits show up as such (so that everyone would know what changes were made?)

Failing that, I think that 30 minutes would work OK.
