Pro Detailers from Norway at Meguiar's!

Our friends all the way from Norway here at Meguiar's

    Practicing Wet-Sanding Skills

Practicing removing sanding marks using a M85 with a wool cutting pad on rotary buffer

This was an exceptional group of guys focused like laser beams on learning more about Meguiar's professional techniques when it comes to the wet-sanding, cutting and buffing procedure when using the rotary buffer.

We also went through our normal Saturday Detailing 101 Class including the classroom portion and professional technique for using both our hands and Meguiar's G100 Dual Action Polisher.

More pictures later... time to clean up and head home for the day

Wow cant wait for the write up, might have to gauge the interest from Megs UK members for something similair.

is there a charge for this and somewhere close by to stay?

      sorry for all the questions

You'll have to wait for Mike to chime in on Meguiar's specifics but I can mention a little about local lodging.

Meguiar's headquarters is near John Wayne airport in the heart of Orange County, home to Disneyland, surfing, citrus, sailing, shopping and businesses up the kazoo. There are tons of lodging options within a few minutes drive and even a couple within (theoretical **) walking distance. From five-stars to dumps, we've got it in OC.

Just do a little web surfing on travel and/or local directory sites and you'll have no problem finding a place to stay.

        PC.

** I say theoretical walking distance because nobody actually walks around the business zones of Irvine. There aren't even sidewalks to walk on in a lot of areas.

There's a train station in Irvine too but it ain't like the UK and Europe where buses and trains are the easy way around. Best to rent a car (one that has a lot of swirls to practice on ).

I'm guessing that the Norwegians arrived at Meguiars in a rental car. If so, did it get a full detail? Most rental cars could do with a good detailing.

These gentlemen were guests of David Pykett,

            David J. Pykett
            International Sales and Marketing Specialist
            Meguiar's International
            GSM: +44 78 8787 8481

They also attended SEMA as guests of Davids. As for any arrangements for their stay I do not know.

Originally they wanted to attend one of our normal Saturday Detailing Classes, which would have been last Saturday except that last Saturday there was no class scheduled, so we held a special class just for these guys.

Because most/all of these guys are Professional Detailer in their country, they already know quite a bit about Meguiar's and detailing, their primary interest was in learning more about Meguiar's in general and wet-sanding and buffing using a rotary buffer, to which we did our best to accommodate them.

I asked each of the guys for their business cards if they had one with them and I got three I think. I'll take a digital picture of them and post them to this thread as it's kind of interesting.

Just to note, there are actually not a lot of pictures to post but what I have I'll post. A couple of these guys were taking photos all throughout the class so maybe when they get back home and get situated they will chime-in and post some of their pictures.

We actually snagged a neglected car from the owner in a nearby parking lot, I do have some after pictures of what we did to the hood.

                Thanks Mike and PC,

Looking at the topics you covered, by the time i'd be able to try organise this most of the people who would come will have progressed to a rotary and dabbling in wet sanding.
although not all of these will be full on detailers( more weekend warriors)

Are there minimum/maximum numbers of people required?

also what is shopping like for the ladies as some of the wives/girlfriends dont share our enthusiasm for nice paintwork

Not enthusiastic about paint? I can't imagine....?

Shopping in OC can be either a blessing or a curse, depending on how you look at it and how much abuse your credit cards can handle. As with lodging, there are shopping opportunities for budgets ranging from modest to unlimited.

Many big cities have shopping districts where visitors and locals congregate to indulge. So Cal in general and OC in particular aren't set up that way. It's pretty freeform out here and there's a mix of commercial, industrial, agricultural and residential neighborhoods distributed throughout. We even have wilderness areas mixed in here and there. New Yorkers have a saying about us that "there is no 'there' there". We like it that way. But it's why renting a car is pretty much mandatory.

Meguiar's headquarters is close to some of OC's most well know shopping destinations like South Coast Plaza, Newport Fashion Island, the Irvine Spectrum and many, many more. (Substantial credit card discipline is highly recommended.)

Beyond that there's plenty to see and do around here. We're well known for our beaches and there are parks, museums, galleries, theme parks, tons of dining, etc, etc.

The John Wayne Airport is about 6-7 blocks down the road from Meguiar's Corporate Headquarters.

If you're serious about flying here, I'll put together a special event for our forum members and coordinate it through our forum.

Perhaps in the spring? Perhaps time it with next year's Meguiar's Award so you and your girlfriend and the rest of our special guests can attend.

We can get Paul to wash your rental car while your here!

                          Thanks Mike,

unfortunatly it'll have to be around the end of July/ beginning of august as my girlfriend and one of the other members are teachers, so the only time they are aloud off is school holidays,

it also gives everyone a chance to save up,

i'm just gauging numbers at the moment and have around 6-10

but if we could arrange something like the Norwiegan visit, the 101 class and the rotary, wet sanding one i'm sure they would come.

i've found a Hotel through Juli at Megs UK as she is coming over in december for training( only a little jealous )

                          thanks Alex

ps im really sorry for the thread hijack

Oops, too slow on the trigger, Mike beat me to the John Wayne Airport (a.k.a SNA in airlinespeak) link. Though very close to Meguiar's SNA has no international flights. You'd need to fly into an international airport and take a connecting flight. (If you land in LA you can drive to OC.)
